What you need to know

Isn’t supply teaching just for those who cannot obtain full-time employment?   Most definitely NOT!

If you have just finished university and are looking for a great career choice to develop all those new skills then you should consider supply teaching.   Supply teaching provides a valuable learning opportunity as you start your teaching career and can be a great way to make teaching work for you.

Widen your teaching experiences

Through supply teaching you will widen your teaching experiences by working in a variety of Oxfordshire schools with a wide range of children of differing abilities. This could provide a great opportunity to enhance your cross-curricular skills and key stage experiences. It also allows you to have a unique insight into how different schools are managed and how different classes interact.

Being a supply teacher may also be first step in securing a more permanent teaching position in the school that is right for you.

Did you know that you can complete your induction year during long term placements as a supply teacher?

Undertaking long-term supply at the same school (for a minimum of one term) counts towards your induction.  We have lots of experience working with NQTs and strong links with the OTSA, who manage NQT Induction across Oxfordshire, so we are well placed to help you start your teaching career.

How flexible can I be

We can offer you supply work to suit your requirements whether it is on a full-time or part-time basis. What does this mean?  In simple terms if you want to just work one day a week on day to day supply work that’s ok with us, but if you want to work 4 days a week on a longer term basis that’s also ok.  We work to your needs rather than you having to fit.

Will it help me find a job?

The wide variety of experience that you gain from teaching a range of age groups across different schools gives you a huge amount of experience which is very attractive to head teachers. In fact, many of our teachers find permanent work positions through working on supply via Class Act Teaching Services

Can we guarantee work?

We get requests from schools for a variety of work across Oxfordshire and borders ranging from same day to long-term.  The more flexible you are the more likely we will be able to find you work.  At interview we will discuss your needs, preferences and availability and will work with your choices to ensure that we can provide you with the maximum amount of work that suits your circumstances.

Teacher resources from Class Act Teaching Services

“Upon completion of my PGCE I was quite nervous because I was actually becoming a teacher. Class Act made everything easy! A friendly voice on the end of the phone when I’d had a bad day, loads of helpful advice, great flexibility and a real pleasure to work for.”

Zoe Spriggins – Supply Teacher

“Class Act comes with my (Oxford Brookes) highest recommendation. Class Act is a tremendous Teaching Agency, the staff favour a proactive, hands-on approach which means that you are never left waiting for responses. All Class Act personnel are extremely personable and have a deep knowledge and understanding of schools and the current market. Their careful and professional dealings with our trainees as they enter into their first year of teaching is outstanding and one trainee recently quoted the following: “Their personal touch means you really know that they care and will try hard to find the place that is completely right for you”. This reflects how many of our trainees feel. Class Act is a very apt name for this exceptional Teaching Agency – They certainly are a ‘Class Act’ and one that I will continue to recommend to our trainees here at Oxford Brookes University.”

Jean Clark, Former Programme Leader, Primary & Early Years Teacher Education, Oxford Brookes.
